May 2023 Guest Column

Tricia Jaworski, OTR/L, CSPHP

I wrote last year about all the wonderful things the Association of Safe Patient Handling Professionals Marketing Committee had been working on, and we have more to share with you for 2023!

ASPHP ran its first-ever Come Join Us membership campaign from February to April. Current members who recruited new ASPHP memberships earned rewards.

Congratulations to Angela Berlin, Michelle Claycomb, Linda Enos, Colleen Lupia, Laurie Muratore, Asha Roy, and Susan Salsbury who recruited new ASPHP members during this campaign. You will be contacted about your free webinar(s).

Watch for future membership campaigns, though you can encourage members to join anytime during the year outside of a campaign. Share our membership benefits with your professional network.

Spread the word about ASPHP! Use our updated E- Brochure to help disseminate information about ASPHP and all that membership has to offer. Please share this E-Brochure with your C-Suite, leadership, direct care providers, Safe Patient Handling & Mobility (SPHM) peers and anyone you think would benefit from knowing more about ASPHP and all this organization has to offer members as well as nonmembers.

Committee opportunities are available. While I may be partial to the Marketing Committee, you can find your fit on any of the ASPHP committees. We have impactful work going on with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Governance; Education; Marketing; and the National Event committees. Our affiliate, Certified Safe Patient Handling Professionals (CSPHP), offers certification and needs volunteer support as well.

We have so many dedicated SPHM peers. We need dynamic and passionate people to help us continue to move our mission forward.

ASPHP continually grows with the support of its members, supporters, sponsors, partners, and committee members like you. Thank you!

Based on your feedback from our webinar surveys we are looking for presenters for the following topics: managing geriatric patients in health care sectors, home health and family care givers, SPHM for fragile skin, how to facilitate a SPHM Committee meeting and integration of SPHM/Falls and Pressure Injury. If you, or someone you know would be willing to give a webinar on one of these topics, you can submit your abstract online or download a webinar abstract submission form.

ASPHP Discussion Group reminder

ASPHP Discussion Group reminder

The ASPHP Discussion Group is a membership benefit that allows ASPHP members to ask questions, provide input and share information with other safe patient-handling and mobility peers.
To participate in the group, you can simply send an email to asphpgroup@asphp.topicbox.com or participate from the dashboard, asphp.topicbox.com.

Getting too many emails? You can manage your notification settings at asphp.topicbox.com. Under “Delivery Options” in the lower right-hand corner, click “Edit Delivery Options” and choose from among three options:

  • Email it to me – Every comment will be delivered to your inbox individually.
  • Include it in my daily summary – You will receive a daily roundup email with the comments from the previous day
  • I’ll review it on the web; don’t email it to me – You won’t receive any notifications and will need to check out the dashboard to see any activity.

Amico Mobility is a leading innovator in the medical industry with a primary focus on safe patient handling. The products are designed to facilitate the clinician to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients.

Amico’s GoLift is the smallest, most compact patient lift on the market today, weighing only 10lbs and lifting up to 700lbs. Two compact GoLifts in tandem are available to lift patients up to 1000lbs. The capacitive touch hand control, sleek design, and smooth edges allow for easy cleaning and disinfecting, targeting effective infection control. The GoLift is equipped with all state-of-the-art metal gears to ensure durability, safety, and reliability. The intuitive back-up emergency lowering system is operated by pulling the strap, prompting the GoLift to lower as the LED lights on the unit turn red. Additionally, the GoLift can be integrated into the Patient Lift Pendant (PLP) System where a lift track is assembled into a boom arm.

Using this proven design and technology from the GoLift, Amico has created the GoLift Portable450. Similar to the GoLift, the GoLift Portable450 is the lightest and most compact portable ceiling lift on the market today, weighing only 6lbs and lifting up to 450lbs. As a truly portable unit, the GoLift Portable450 can easily be carried from room to room, has controls on the unit, as well as your choice of a wired or wireless hand control. The reacher bar comes in two standard lengths with the option to customize. The emergency lowering system is operated by gently pushing down on the red emergency button.
