Overview

We will dive into what the key ingredients are to ensure new leadership is well supported for facility and system wide fall prevention and SPHM teams. It is typically a secondary role and there are many learning curves during that first year as a new lead. This panel discussion will speak to varied perspectives and roles that are needed to ensure that sustainable practices are forthcoming with every lead transition.

Objectives – After this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify needs and expectations of Fall Prevention and SPHM team leads
  2. Understand how to pull in sustainable and seamless lead transitions
  3. Describe how to support new leaders and promote comprehensive mentorship

Meet the Speakers

Rhonda Turner, DNP, MSN, RN, CSPHA
Rhonda has been in healthcare for 38 years in various roles. She acquired her BSN in 2014 and her MSN-Leadership in 2018. She currently works as a Sr. RN Clinical Stroke Program Manager. In addition, she leads a large healthcare system for fall prevention, SPHM, and early mobility by identifying methods to increase awareness and how a focused program can positively impact patient outcomes while reducing injuries to the patients and frontline staff. Rhonda is a national and international speaker since 2015, a published author, has been a board member of ASPHP since 2019 and is now serving as the Executive Secretary Treasurer.  She is also in progress of Graduated with her DNP in April of 2024. Her mantra is “Empowering others to lead the future”.

Kayla Hutson, MBA, BSN, RN-BC
Kayla is the RN Director of the Emergency Department at Banner Baywood Medical Center. Kayla has been an RN for about 11 years and have gained a passion for serving the geriatric population. Through her love for geriatric patients, she obtained my ANCC Gerontological Nursing board certification in 2020. Kayla strives to make every patient visit to the hospital a safe one. Therefore, she  propelled  her passion towards decreasing falls within the hospital setting. Kayla joined the Banner Falls committee and later became a system co-lead. She then gained a desire to combine Safe Patient Handling, Mobility and Fall Prevention to promote early and safe mobility for the patient and caregiver.

Edmon S Regachuelo, PhD©, MAN, BSN, RN, CLSSGB-HC, CMSRN
RN Operations Support Specialist
Edmon is the RN Operations Support Specialist for Medical Surgical Service Line for more than a year now. He started with Banner as an international travel RN back in 2009 from the Philippines. Aside from working with Banner, Edmon is also an adjunct professor for Colorado Christian University and University of Northern Colorado. In addition, with his current work, he also do a part time home healthcare nursing.

He has a Masters degree of arts in nursing major in nursing service and education and now, completing his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Nursing Education this year. Moreover, he completed a certificate course from Harvard Online University for Organizational Leadership. Edmon is also a Certified Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (CMSRN) by MSNCB and a certified Lean Six Sigma Green Belt for healthcare (CLSSGB-HC) by Emory University.

Edmon has an in-depth passion with teaching, mentoring and staff development. He is affiliated with three different organizations nationally and internationally for mentoring role. Edmon is also involved in community service, currently the board member for Philippine Nurses Association of Colorado spearheading the Education and Staff Development Committee. Edmon is not just into career and clinical advancement; he loves travelling. On his spare time, he enjoys camping, hiking, and biking. Being in nature is where his heart lies.

Amy Rust, BSN, RN
RN Operations Support Specialist (ROSS)
Amy has been a with Banner since 2016 as an ICU RN and as the ROSS for BFCMC & BMMC facilities since 2022. Her past nursing work experience includes roles in critical care, gynecology & Infertility.  As the ROSS for these facilities it has allowed her to integrate her love of education, patient care and her critical care experience into a profession she is passionate about. Amy enjoys reading, yoga, camping & traveling  and spending time with her family.

Skye Gray MS, RN
Northern Colorado Quality Specialist
Skye has been with Banner as a Quality Specialist since March 2025 and supports BFCMC, BMMC, and BNCMC facilities of Northern Colorado. For the past 2 years, Skye worked as an RN Associate Director for the Medical Surgical Service Line at North Colorado Medical Center.  She graduated from Regis University in 2015 with a Master’s in Nursing Leadership.

Her past RN work experience includes roles in Clinical Education, Med/Surg, Hospice, Rehab, Ortho/Neuro, and Float Pool. Skye’s Leadership experience has grown throughout her 19 years as a nurse. Skye enjoys diamond art painting, gardening, playing PC games, and watching reality tv shows in her free time.

Debbie Calabrese, MSIN, BSN, RN
Northern Colorado Quality Specialist
Debbie has been a with Banner as a Quality Specialist since 2021 and supports BFCMC, BMMC, and BNCMC facilities of Northern Colorado. She graduated from CU Health Sciences Center in 1999 with her BSN and completed a Master’s in Health Informatics through the University of New England in Maine, 2020.  Her past RN work experience includes roles in critical care, dialysis, ophthalmology, travel nursing, case management and home health care. The field of Quality has allowed her to integrate her love of technology and data into a profession she is proud to have been a part of for 25 years.  Debbie enjoys hiking, biking, camping, yoga, coffee, and spending time with her family.
