Leveraging Change for Success and Rejuvenation of Safety
Presented by Megan Bell, COTA, CNS

Live Jul 9, 2025 from 2 PM – 3 PM Eastern FREE to ASPHP Members

Overview

As a new face within the organization coming in at the tail end of the Covid Pandemic there was an opportunity to reinvigorate the focus and importance of SPHM, giving new life and perspective on the topic to our staff and leaders. There was a need and opportunity to develop and structure a plan to re-connect with leaders and the many Business Units within the organization surrounding education, training, and implementation of best practice when it comes to SPHM.

With significant analysis of data, there was opportunity to re-build a program with a new goal and focus on collaboration to benefit all stakeholders pairing together the partnership of employee and patient safety/outcomes.

In this presentation we will walk you through the development process of our SPHM and Mobility Coach program while identifying and calling out the barriers that presented and the collaboration needed to gain respect from our peers to move successfully forward with alignment in practice and expectations.

We will call out key groups of individuals that were leveraged for support to push this initiative forward and how having lines of communication and collaboration can lead to new opportunities and further evolvement regarding a SPHM program.

The objective is to share with you what worked within our organization building a program from the ground up and what tools and foundations can be utilized to help support your individualized objectives to improving Safe Patient Handling and Mobility within your facilities.

At the end of this presentation the primary objective is that participants will have a broader understanding of the comprehensive approach that can be taken within an organization to overcome barriers and support desired outcomes with partnership and collaborations amongst different subject matter experts.

Participants will be able to take the information reviewed and discuss with their colleagues in a professional and relatable manner to entice support and understanding surrounding how SPHM ties directly into the following:

  1. optimizing patient outcomes (Fall and HAPI reductions)
  2. promoting a safety culture within the healthcare setting
  3. reduction of costs associated with employee injuries
