Title: Safe Patient Vehicle Transfers: Demonstrations and Explanations
Presented by Christopher Craigmile, CSPHP and Dennis Markle
Overview:
This webinar provides clear, step-by-step instruction on safely transferring moderate- to fully-dependent patients in and out of vehicles using evidence-based Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) practices. Participants will learn how to assess patient mobility, identify environmental risks, and select and operate appropriate transfer equipment. Demonstrations will cover both emergent and non-emergent scenarios, emphasizing communication, patient dignity, and injury prevention. By the end of the session, attendees will be equipped to perform vehicle transfers confidently, safely, and in alignment with SPHM standards.
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Assess patient mobility levels to determine appropriate transfer methods.
- Position and operate SPHM equipment correctly and safely during vehicle transfers.
- Uphold patient dignity through effective communication and respectful handling practices.
- Maintain a safe environment by identifying and mitigating hazards throughout the transfer process, including demonstrations using mechanical lifts and transfer aids across various vehicle types.
- Perform vehicle transfers confidently and efficiently in alignment with evidence-based SPHM standards that support optimal safety and ergonomic performance.
