Journey towards a National Coding Standard for Patient Handling Injuries
The webinar provides insight into the journey and development of a national standard for Patient Handling Injury coding. The standardized coding once implemented universally, will provide a mechanism to measure and benchmark injuries and fully support further prevention and research.

Vicki Missar, MS, CPE, CSPHP, CHSP, SSBB,

Vicki is a thought leader who provides solutions for over 800 Aon Health Care clients across the United States. This includes developing strategies that address the total cost of risk and clinical integration of casualty, medical malpractice, and general liability programs. Vicki is on the board of directors for the Association of Safe Patient Handling where she supports members and develops outreach programs, best practices and certification standards. As a board certified ergonomist, Vicki integrates biomechanics and muscle movement patterns into programs. Vicki has developed Aon’s Ageonomics ™ practice that creates integrated solutions for aging health care workers. Vicki is a guest lecturer for the Harvard School of Public Health’s Integrated Health, Safety and Wellness course that teaches students about the merits of integrating these traditionally siloed programs for improved workforce population health.

Candy Raphan, RN, BSN, ARNP, MOAM

Candy brings a varied background of clinical, managed care and health industry related experience. She is a Certified Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner with a specialty in family practice, Candy holds a bachelor’s degree and advanced practice certificates in nursing from the University of Miami and a master’s degree in Organizational Management from the University of Phoenix. As a VP for Client Services, she leverages her clinical background to supports innovative clinical programs and develops strategies that address the total cost of risk for causality and non-occupational disability programs. Candy is also a board member of the Association of Safe Patient Handling Professionals and a member of the National Association of Professional Women and Therapy Dog International.


On June 8, 2016 the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and OSHA issued a joint letter to introduce a series of 7 training modules they have developed and are making available to assist homecare agencies and their trainers. The seven modules include:

· Introduction to Homecare Health and Safety
· Reducing Strains, Sprains and Falls
· Reducing Risk from Environmental Exposures
· Reducing Exposure to Bloodborne and Other Infectious Diseases
· Staying Safe When Working With Clients With Dementia
· Setting Healthy and Safe Boundaries to Reduce Stress; and
· Safely Handling Threatening Behavior When Providing Homecare.
