Overview:

This presentation will review some of the Safe Patient Handling & Mobility (SPHM) challenges faced in non-traditional acute care settings such as ambulatory care, home health, hospice care, and long-term care settings. The uniqueness of these settings will impact those in SPHM roles trying to navigate how to best implement, support and sustain programming in these areas.  There will be discussion on key SPHM program components needed, as well as resources for those supporting the programing. This presentation will also highlight the need for a dedicated SPHM Coordinator or SPHM Program Manger to help with protected time to support programming in these areas.

 Objectives:

  1. Review challenges in non-acute care setting such as ambulatory care, home health, hospice care, and long-term care settings.
  2. Identify how various disciplines, departments and roles are impacted in unique care settings in relation to SPHM Programs.
  3. Explain key SPHM program components that can set a program up for success.
