Overview:
Discover how Intermountain Health’s Primary Children’s Hospital developed their Safe Mobility Program to address gaps in safe patient handling. While pediatric care shares many of the same mobility challenges with adult healthcare, it also presents unique considerations—such as specialized assessments, tools, technology, and processes. Explore how their innovative approach has reduced risks and helped prevent harm to both patients and caregivers.
Objectives:
- Attendees will be able to understand how to collaborate with adult health to establish a pediatric safe mobility program.
- Attendees will understand lessons learned from piloting the BMAT in an academic tertiary care children’s hospital.
- Attendees will understand the nuanced needs specific to safe mobility in the pediatric care setting.
Meet the Speakers
Merrilee Godoy RN, BSN – Nurse Manager, Neuroscience and Trauma, Intermountain, Primary Children’s Hospital
With nearly 35 years of pediatric nursing experience, Merrilee Godoy currently serves as Nurse Manager on the Neuro Trauma Unit at Primary Children’s Hospital, which also provides pediatric rehabilitation services. She is co-chair of the hospital’s Safe Mobility Committee and has led multiple initiatives to improve patient safety and mobility throughout her career.
Logan Rodriguez, PT, DPT, PCS – Physical Therapist, Intermountain, Primary Children’s Hospital
Logan Rodriguez is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist pediatric PT. She has been a PT for 12 years with the last 8 years working in pediatric critical care and assisting with early mobility in the ICU environment. She serves as a primary mentor for the University of Utah’s pediatric residency program and enjoys helping young clinicians grow in critical skills early in their careers.
McCall Shugars MSN, RN –Clinical Nurse Specialist, Intermountain Children’s Health
McCall has been registered nurse for 12.5 years and has specialized in pediatrics the entirety of her career. She has served in the roles of bedside nurse, Clinical Nurse Leader, Charge Nurse, Assistant Nurse Manager, Nurse Manager. Her clinical background includes NeuroTrauma, Rehabiltion, Step Down Emergency Care and Vascular Access. In her current role as Clinical Nurse Specialist on the Nurse Excellence Team, she aids bedside nurses and nurse leaders in evidence-based practice learning and implementation, leads the Safe Patient Mobility Champions Committee for Primary Children’s Hospital, co-chairs the hospital Safe Mobility Committee, and is heavily involved with the Magnet Accredition process
