Overview
Safe Patient Handling and Mobility equipment can often be available, but not always used by staff. In this presentation, we look deeper into the barriers that limited staff from using ceiling lifts and air-assisted devices in an acute care setting. Implementing solutions to address the identified barriers can increase the usage of the available equipment and improve safe patient handling and mobility practices.
Objectives – After this session, participants will be able to:
- Discuss recent literature on the effectiveness of using ceiling lifts and air-assisted devices.
- Identify and address barriers to using ceiling lifts with slings in acute care.
- Identify and address barriers to using air-assisted devices correctly.
- Discuss the findings of implementing solutions to address barriers to using safe patient handling and mobility equipment.
