May 10th, 2023 – ASPHP Webinar: Clinical Loss Aversion and SPHM: The Impact on Patients, Caregivers, & Healthcare Organizations

Presented live and recorded May 10th, 2023 from 2 PM – 3 PM Eastern

Overview

Fear associated with financial losses have been thought to have a greater psychological impact than potential for gains. Healthcare organizations today deal with the crippling financial effects of clinical adversity in the form of patient hospital acquired conditions (HACs). Furthermore, prohibitive costs associated with nursing turnover and caregiver injury management add to the financial burden. An organization’s fear of spending may prevent well-calculated risks with worthwhile returns.

Leading with mobility as an intervention and creating more patient movement episodes, is the remedy to significantly decrease, if not eliminate, some impact of the more costly HACs.

This presentation discusses these concepts, the fiscal and throughput impact of HACs on patients and organizations and the fiscal impacts on nursing turnover and injuries.

Suggested strategies and evidence to support mobility as an intervention and safely creating more impactful patient movement episodes will be examined.

Objectives – After this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the concept of loss aversion and potential to influence organizational spending and investment
  2. Appreciate organizational financial impacts of adverse pt. outcomes, workforce turnover and injury management
  3. Understand the potential for effective pt. mobility strategies to influence adverse pt. outcomes, workforce turnover, and injury management
  4. Assess SPHM program’s capacity to meet & grow safe, efficient and mobility centric care
