Feb 11, 2026 – Integrated Safety: Ergonomics and Safe Patient Handling Strategies for the Ambulatory Setting

Live and recorded on Feb 11, 2026 from 2 PM – 3 PM Eastern

Title: Integrated Safety: Ergonomics and Safe Patient Handling Strategies for the Ambulatory Setting
Presented by Ruth Neuman PT, MBA/HA, CEAS II, REAS, CSPHP

Overview:

Musculoskeletal injuries remain a leading cause of disability and lost work time for healthcare professionals, even in ambulatory settings where tasks may generally seem less strenuous than acute care or equipment is less readily available. We’ll delve into common patient handling tasks in ambulatory care, identify high-risk scenarios, and introduce practical, cost-effective strategies to prevent injuries for both patients and staff. Empower your team with the knowledge to work smarter, not harder, fostering a safer, more efficient, and patient-centered environment.

 Objectives:

  1. Identify opportunities for safe ergonomic principles in an ambulatory setting
  2. Incorporate screening and assessment tools to manage patient and employee safety
  3. Integrate principles of general workplace ergonomics with essential Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) strategies, all tailored for outpatient clinic and MD offices.
  4. Identify appropriate use of smaller assistive devices), and methods to safely assist with transfers, ambulation, and repositioning while identifying and addressing limitations of the clinic.
  5. Opportunities to recommend use of large scale SPHM equipment based on site risk assessment
