Robert Masterman, MSPT, CSPHC
Outgoing President

Thank you, Rob; during your tenure as president, we have seen enormous growth in our Association, even amid the pandemic. You have been vital to the significant advances, particularly in creating a DEI committee. It is your behind-the-scenes work that we are thankful for, especially spearheaded the efforts for the board to reach out to members, that you personally made phone calls to see what opportunities we had to offer more value to ASPHP membership, and helped to maintain meaningful relationships such as with the IJSPHM. You constantly worked towards helping us understand that we are only as successful as the Association members and board members. We were privileged to be surrounded by a dynamic leader like yourself in the industry who shares your knowledge and experience to move the Association forward stronger into the future. On both a professional and a personal level, I am grateful for the time we spent together working towards advancing the science and practice of SPHM. Thank you for your efforts in leading us this past year and in the years to come.

Recognition of the Leadership and Operations Team

We would not have accomplished last year’s gains without your wise counsel and the patient advice of our Board of Directors, advisors, members at large, and the KAMO team. As a result, we hosted our first virtual education event in 2021 with over 1000 attendees. Although this year, we were supposed to host our in-person conference in Glendale, AZ, because of COVID, the Board decided to switch the in-person event to the virtual event. It only took us two months to rearrange the program, develop new content for the event site, and work with vendors to create their virtual booths. We had over 1,400 registered for this event! We were able to cater to requests made by our members and offer educational webinars exceeding our usual offerings and attendance. In addition, we reached more SPHM enthusiasts through various marketing and dedicated engagement efforts than we did in the past. As a result, our Association is growing, and together we can truly make a difference in leading the science and practice of SPHM practice. Thank you for your efforts, Annie, Terri, Kent, Rob, Margaret, Tim, Lynda, Susan G, Ed, Tricia, Sasha, Renee, Kelsey, Nancy, Vicky, Susan S, and You-Li.

In addition, thank you to our outgoing directors, Renee Kielich, RN, BA, CSPHP, Kelsey McCoskey, MS, OTR/L, CPE, CSPHP, and Vicki Missar, MS, CPE, CSPHP, CHSP, SSBB. We hope to continue to receive your leadership and guidance to help grow our Association to benefit all of our members.

Welcome new Board Members and Member at Large

Nicole Hopewell, PT, MS, CSPHP

Neal Wiggermann, Ph.D.

Kirsten Berdahl, PT, MEd, CSPHA

Justin Mierke

I invite new directors Kirsten Berdahl, PT, MEd, CSPHA, Nicole Hopewell, PT, MS, CSPHP, and Neal Wiggermann, Ph.D., to our leadership. I would also like to invite Justin Mierke as our new member at large. Read about their biography in Meet Our Leaders | ASPHP. Both of our new directors and member at large have made significant contributions to the SPHM community. In addition, their unique expertise in SPHM and professional backgrounds will further allow us to promote the mission and core values of our association and SPHM practices as a whole.

Looking Forward

We are a robust community of influencers who can genuinely make a difference when we work together and support each other. Our Association is looking to provide more SPHM educational offerings that are inclusive from a diverse group of speakers, create more resource tools, create more recognitions to highlight the contributions of our members, and create a safer pathway for the next generations of healthcare practitioners by incorporating SPHM practices into their educational curriculums. We promise to continuously work towards upholding patient and team member safety at the core of our pursuits and supporting efforts through collaboration and partnership with our members and supporting affiliate organizations. Thanks to our elite members, we hope to continue to serve you all by advancing the practice and science of safe patient handling and mobility efforts locally, nationally, and even internationally.
If you would like to join us on this journey, feel free to send us an email at info@asphp.org.

Thank you,
