Implementing a Bedside Mobility Assessment Tool

This webinar will review the Bedside Mobility Assessment Tool for Nurses (BMAT), including how and why it is used to assist in choosing the most appropriate SPHM technology based on the patient’s mobility status.

Teresa Boynton worked as an occupational therapist in an outpatient industrial rehab clinic primarily treating injured workers (including injured healthcare workers) from 1989 – 2005, and assisted companies with injury prevention and workers’ compensation case resolution.  In 2003 began working for Banner Health Risk Management focused on safe patient handling and mobility (SPHM), and participatory ergonomics.  Co-chair of the Banner Health SPHM/Falls Prevention Team 2012 through September 2015.  Worked with Banner team on creating, validating and implementing the “Bedside Mobility Assessment Tool for Nurses” (BMAT), and authored two articles on the BMAT. Presenter at SPHM conferences from 2010 to April 2017. Certified as a safe patient handling professional (CSPHP) by the Association of Safe Patient Handling Professionals.  Currently a Safe Patient Handling and Mobility Programs and Services Director with Hill-Rom Liko.
